Linda Weintraub has initiated an interdisciplinary college text book series in which the core principles of eco-art are identified and its practice is promoted. Avant-Guardians explores art allied to ecology’s engagement with the perpetually shifting, infinitely layered montage of living entities.
The first two textlets in the series are entitled Cycle-Logical Art and Eco-Centric Topics. Subsequent volumes will extend the consideration of ecology and art to aesthetics, art mediums, tools, and the creative process itself.
The project intersects with recent public debate in Copenhagen about air pollution in the city. In collaboration with Senior Scientist Jørgen Brandt from The National Environmental Research Institute in Denmark a first prototype is developed for making an indicator that can be placed in the city and display local levels of pollution as well as pollution forecasts on individual streets. The project holds an open source script for displaying data from the Internet in a variety of forms.
